Abstract:
"Whole length portrait of a lady, standing in profile to the left. In her right hand she holds a ticket inscribed "PANTHEON admit Lady No. Rep". She resembles portraits of Mrs. Baddeley and appears to be regarding her Pantheon ticket with a complacent smile. She wears a low bodice and a necklace; a train from her shoulders falls over a frilled and flounced petticoat. Her elbow sleeves have wide lace frills, and she wears long gloves. Abstract:
"The Duke of York sits on a settee with a courtesan on each knee, Mrs. Clarke (left) and (presumably) Mrs. Carey (right). One foot rests on large volumes of 'Army Accompts'; by the other is a smaller book: 'Ovid Art of Love'. A chair is overturned; the Duke's (broken) sword transfixes a paper: 'Promotions, My Foot Boy' [Carter, see British Museum Satires No. 11223], 'Foster 200 ... 150, Smalcroft200....' [see British Museum Satires No. 11227]. On a round table are decanters, fruit, a stand of jelly-glasses. Above the Duke hangs a picture of the Prodigal Son watching swine at a trough, inscribed: 'I will Arise and Go To my Fa[ther]'. Mrs. Clarke, unnoticed by the Duke, makes a sign to Wardle (right) who enters the room holding out a paper: 'The Duty which I Owe to my Country is Paramount to Every Other Concideration' [the tenor of the opening of his speech of 27 Jan. attacking the Duke). He is followed by a crowd of shadowy figures carrying a gibbet, an axe, and a statue of Justice."--British Museum online catalogue

"Two enormously fat courtesans sit side by side on a settee which they completely fill; between them and on the knees of both sits the Duke of Norfolk, a wine-glass in his left hand, in his right he holds the hand of one of the women at whom he gazes with a smile. Both women look amorously at him; they are dressed decorously and without extravagance. At the Duke's feet lies his baton as hereditary Earl Marshal. Above the two women is etched: (left) 'The Royal Sovereign, was formerly to be seen by all admirers of Natural Curiosities at Sixpence pr Head, & is reported to weigh near Forty-Stone', (right) 'Nell H--t--n, weighs rather under Thirty Stone; & in the absence of the Great Man, his place is agreeably filled by T------ W-----d, the celebrated collector on the Highway.' "Above, Mrs. Clarke stands on a round dais, under a canopy, receiving her clients. These are headed by six military officers; the foremost makes a sweeping bow, cocked hat in hand. Next is a fat parson holding a money-bag inscribed 800; behind is an obese doctor, with three other elderly men. She says to them: Ye Captains and ye Colonels-ye parsons wanting place, Advice I'll give ye gratis and think upon your case, If there is possibility, for you I'll raise the dust, But then you must excuse me-if I serve myself the first. Below, Mrs. Clarke, much décolletée, looks from an open ground-floor window of a London house, to see a fashionably dressed man, Taylor, walking towards her holding a sealed packet. He looks over his shoulder at a yokel with a cudgel, who asks: I say Measter Shoe-maker where be you going in such a woundy hurry? Taylor answers: Dont speak to me fellow you should never pry into State affairs. Mrs. Clarke says: Open the door John here comes the Ambassador Now for the dear delightful Answer.
