- Bell left from San Francisco, California, to Vancouver, Canada. He then visited tourist sites in Hawaii, Japan, China, the Soviet Union, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, England, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, before returning to the United States via New York. His narrative details his impressions of the different locales, including a description of travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Soviet Union. The volume also includes material related to a political rally of the British Union of Fascists in October 1934. Snapshot photographs throughout the volume depict sites and street scenes along his journey. and Scrapbook that documents a trip around the world by Lynn Morley Bell, May-November 1934. The volume includes narrative about the trip, as well as circa 130 mounted photographic prints, circa 145 newspaper clippings and printed items, and 15 booklets and pamphlets tipped in or laid in. Hotel stickers and travel decals, mostly from Japan and the Soviet Union, cover the boards of the volume, while the rear pastedown includes 11 photographs of United States consulates or legations visited by Bell.
- Description:
- Lynn Morley Bell (1913-1997) was born in Dinuba, California. He was the son of Geoffrey Bell (1889-1961) and Hazel Winderdale Franklin Bell (1889-1957), and grew up in Ukiah, California. In 1938, he graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, and then worked as a salesman. In June 1939, he married Julia Powell (1916-1996), and they lived in Palo Alto, California. and Purchased from Marc Selvaggio Bookseller on the Elizabeth Wakeman Dwight Memorial Fund, 2009.

Companies represented in the scrapbook include American-Hawaiian Steamship Company; Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway Company; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company; F A O Schwarz; Great Northern Railway Company (related to the See America First campaign for Glacier National Park); Volland Poster Stamp Co.; and W.P. Fuller & Co. There are also stamps and decals for expositions including the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon, 1905; the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, California, 1915; and the Panama-California Exposition (later known as the Panama-California International Exposition) in San Diego, California, 1915-1917.

- The scrapbook records the voyage of the ship South America from Providence, Rhode Island, via the Panama to San Francisco. Along with written notations of the ship's location, there are newspaper clippings listing the passengers, members of the Tallman Mining and Trading Association. There is also information on the barks Walter, Rio, and Rhodes. A note at the end records people going to mines near Stockton.

- The scrapbook, likely compiled by Edward Fayette Eldridge's daughter Jennie though inscribed by her father on February 15, 1913, reuses a 300 page ledger originally used to record undated accounts of treatments and charges for Eldridge's patients. Clippings, printed ephemera, and other materials are pasted in from page 47 to page 81 of the ledger. Items include: clippings of Eldridge's poems published in Grand Junction newspapers; clipped newspaper articles by and about Eldridge, including obituary notices; business and calling cards for Eldridge, his daughter Jennie, and her husband, Denver chemist E. T. Herrmann; a psychographic profile of Eldridge; and postcards and pamphlets printed with Eldridge's poems.
