She is framed in drawn-back curtains, lit by firelight, and is wrapped in a tufted white counterpane from under which one swathed foot extends towards the fire. A horse looks on, his head poking through the casement window. Beside their bed is a candle, chamber pot, and a chair on which he has thrown his coat. Probably deriving (remotely) from Fuseli's 'Nightmare'.
