"A sequel to British Museum Satires No. 10518, Gillray's 'Tiddy-Doll'. Napoleon, haggard and desperate, wearing tattered uniform without the former apron and sword, walks in profile to the left, carrying on his head a large tray. On this stand three gingerbread kings, burlesqued and mutilated, with two queens, a detached head (crowned), and (right) a pile of imperial emblems: crowns, mitre, sceptre, eagle, flag, &c. On the left a bonnet rouge hangs from a staff. In the middle stands an imperial eagle with a tricolour flag to which is tied a broom showing that the contents of the tray are for sale. Napoleon says (with grimly closed mouth): "Buy my Image! Here's my nice little Gingerbread Emperor & Kings Retail and for Exportation!" Behind him is a tumbledown thatched hovel; over an aperture where more gingerbread figures are displayed is a board: 'Tiddy-Doll Gingerbread Baker. NB Removed from Paris.' Above fly three of the (carrion) birds associated in these prints with Elba. Napoleon walks towards the sea; across the water (in France) tiny figures dance holding hands round a white flag inscribed 'Vivent les Bourbons' and topped by a fleur-de-lis. Behind them is the gable-end of a rustic inn: 'The Kings Head New Revived'. Brougham (right), in wig and gown, vigorously pushes a broom against the hindquarters of an ass with the head of Alderman Wood (cf. British Museum Satires No. 14110). "Brougham, seated in profile to the right in a chair inscribed Place, makes a bonfire on the floor of documents and his Old Stuff gown. This he holds over the flames on a levelled broomstick, the broom being inscribed Treasury Broom. Under one foot is a paper inscribed Opposition. He says: I think I shall cut a dash with my new gown; so here goes for the old one--Silk against Stuff for any money. But this worn out concern stinks most damnably: tis true, a great deal of dirty work has been done in it and it was only stuff at first:--it now emits more smoke than flame; yet I can distinguish a magic picture through this volume of vapour. O, glorious precedence! "Tam venerabile erat praecedere" Juvl. The burning papers are: March of Intellect [see British Museum Satires No. 15178], Liberty [of the] Pres[s], Blacks, Catholic Emancipation, Mulatoes, Reform. The smoke from the fire is inscribed Independence, Patriotism, Public Charities, Vapour, Retrenchment. Behind him (left) his new gown hangs on a stand made of an upright which supports his new wig, and a cross-bar inscribed Treasury. The gown is Patent New Silk. Partly concealed by the smoke is the 'magic picture': Anticipation; the Purse of the Great Seal suspended above mace and sword.
