Trippe frequently alludes to and quotes other medical and scientific authors in developing his argument, including Hippocrates, Dioscorides, Nicander, Avicenna, and his contemporaries Antonio Guainerio, Jean Fernel, Pietro Andreas Mattioli, and Leonhard Fuchs, as well as the humanist thinkers Henry Cornelius Agrippa, Guillaume Bude, and Ramus (Pierre de la Ramee). and Text prefaced (p. 5-7) by a dedicatory epistle to Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who was Chancellor of Oxford and from whom Trippe was soliciting recommendation for appointment as Physician of Corpus Christi
