"A stout lady wearing a tartan scarf supports the Prince of Wales, who is tipsily waving a lighted (and broken) candle, towards the open door of a bedroom (right). He is dishevelled, with ungartered stockings; his left arm is round the lady's neck. She holds a full wine-glass whose contents are spilling. Behind the Prince's back she snaps her ringers derisively at Lady Jersey, who enters (left), in under-garments and night-cap, saying, "I'll discover the Correspondence in Revenge". The scene is a small ante-room between two bedrooms; in it are a table with bottles and glasses at which is an arm-chair. Behind Lady Jersey (left) is a bed over which is a coronet with the letter 'J', in the other room (right) there is a coronet with the letter 'G' above the bed. Lord Jersey's head and shoulders project from under his wife's bed; he looks towards her, saying, "Upon my Honor I don't think he uses us well after giving me all this trouble for nothing!!" "George III and Queen Charlotte stand before the open gate of the Treasury, from which Pitt has just wheeled a barrow laden with money-bags. Pitt, the straps of the barrow round his shoulders, his coat-pocket bulging with guineas, obsequiously hands the king a money-bag. George III stands full-face, legs astride, a money-bag inscribed '£100000' under his right arm, another in his right hand and all his pockets overflowing with guineas. Queen Charlotte (left) stands on his right taking a pinch of snuff, and looking up at him with a smile of greedy and satisfied cunning; in her apron is a heap of guineas. Military officers wearing high cocked hats with feather trimmings (in a French fashion), and long pigtail queues, stand round the King and Queen, in a semicircle, in front of the spiked gates of the Treasury, playing musical instruments: fifes, bassoons, a horn, &c. The pockets of the two in the foreground (left and right) are crammed with guineas, those of the others, presumably equally full, are concealed. They represent the placemen and Ministerialists of the Treasury Bench. The most prominent (right) is probably Lord Sydney. In the foreground (left) an old sailor, armless and with two wooden legs, sits on the ground, his empty hat before him. On the right the Prince of Wales, in rags, hesitates to take a paper inscribed 'Accept £200000 from your Friend Orleans', which a slim and foppish Frenchman, in bag-wig and 'chapeau-bras', standing on the extreme right, offers him, taking his hand. He is very different from the heavily built Due d'Orléans (who succeeded his father in Nov. 1785) who had recently presented his portrait by Reynolds (now at Hampton Court) to the Prince of Wales. "George IV as the 'Great Babe' lies asleep in his cradle rocked by Lady Conyngham, while Wellington, seated before a pier-glass, places the crown on his own head. The glass reflects the dark emaciated features of British Museum Satires No. 15520. The Duke wears a uniform with boots and sword. On a table below the glass the sceptre and orb lie on a cushion. Lady Conyngham, with a towering coiffure as in British Museum Satires No. 15508, croons: Oh slumber my darling | The time may soon come | When thy rest may be broken | By Trumpet & Drum [the last three words in large letters]. The infant sucks a thumb; a gouty foot projects from the coverlet. On the floor is a line of toys: a sailing boat on wheels, a model of Buckingham Palace reconstructed by Nash as in British Museum Satires No. 15668, a giraffe (see British Museum Satires No. 15425), a Life Guard on a toy horse, a Foot-Guard, a dismantled or unfinished ship resting on a prostrate toy soldier. Print shows George IV, "a conning stoker," of some "Mischief brewing," stirring up the "Flames of Persecution," with "vengeance," saying, "If this trial fail I'l brew no more." Behind him is a vat "Filthy composition" into which flows "a pure stream to expose the secrets" which spills on a couple in an embrace, "How do you like it - non mi Ricordo." Passing an open door is Caroline, "The brewers wife." On the right are three men, one says, "Be just in all your dealings." Another, holding a pitcher labeled "a trial" says, "I can't swallow this, it is all froth." The third says, "I wonder at our commander engaging in such a business."
