In Latin., Script: Throughout the book the gloss is written in extremely small Gothica Cursiva Libraria, but the lemmata or opening words of the marginal glosses are executed in a large calligraphic form of the same script. Art. 4 copied by one hand in bold Gothica Cursiva Libraria/Formata., Binding: original quarter leather binding: blind-tooled pigskin and wooden boards, spine with three raised bands. One brass clasp attached to the rear board. The binding is strengthened with strips of parchment cut from a manuscript containing Eberhardus Bethuniensis (Everard of Béthune, d. 1212), Graecismus., and Bound with 3 other titles.

Description:
In Latin., Script: copied by one hand in careful Humanistica Textualis., Space for headings was provided at the head of each Satire, but the headings were not executed. Satt. 2-16 open with a 3-line (6-line Satt. 6 and 7) plain initial (Capitalis) in blue. On f. 1r (Sat. 1) 6-line white vinestem initial integrated in a three-margins left border in the same style and colours; in the lower section of the latter, between two birds, there is a damaged coat of arms in a wreath. Guide letters., and Binding: original Italian brown leather over thin wooden boards, the covers blind-tooled and decorated with gold dots. Spine with three raised bands. Remnants of two clasps, attached to the front cover by means of brass nails with engraved heads; palmette-shaped thin brass catches fixed to the rear cover with three nails each. The pastedowns and flyleaves are covered with carefully written notes and quotations on grammar, morals, education, etymology and meaning of rare words, variant readings in classical texts, etc.

In Latin., Script: rapidly copied by one hand in a linear and sloping Humanistica Semitextualis Libraria/Currens close to Cursiva., 2-line plain inset initials (Capitalis) alternately red and blue, with guide letters. Between two successive Satires 1 line is left blank. In the lower margin of p. 9 there is a clumsy drawing in pale ink of a rabbit (?); an unidentified drawing (part of a dress?) is seen in the lower margin of p. 38 and part of the same in the lower margin of p. 99 (with offset on p. 98)., and Binding: 19th century, England. White parchment over cardboard, the covers gold-tooled with a double frame of fillets and a small circular stamp in the corners; the spine entirely gold-tooled with various designs; at its top a red leather label with the gold-tooled title “IVVENALIS / MS.”; at the bottom a small label in the same material and colour with the gold-tooled inscription “SÆC. / XV.” Dark red marbled endleaves. Gilt edges.

In Latin., Watermarks: similar to Briquet Tete de boeuf 14873., Script: Written in humanistic script by a single scribe., Six illuminated initials in blue or green, 6- to 5-line on gold rectangular grounds (ff. 1r, 20r, 32v, 45v, 59r, 76r); smaller initials, in blue, for the remaining satires., and Binding: Sixteenth century (?). Vellum stays and vellum reinforcement of own end leaves. Resewn on three slit straps bound in wooden boards covered in brown leather, blind-tooled, with two catches on the upper board. Too heavily restored to tell much about the binding.

The principal scribe, Franciscus Seroddi Centinomius Phylaretus, wrote ff. 1r-72v and 79r-84v; he signed the manuscript on ff. 72v and 84v. Scribe 2 wrote ff. 74r-78v and Scribe 3 the notes on ff. 85r-87v. Marginal and interlinear glosses in several contemporary hands., Argumenta of Guarino of Verona in red rustic capitals preceding each title; spaces for decorative initials never filled., and Binding: Sixteenth century (?). Vellum stays. Original sewing on three slit, tawed straps. Primary, plain and secondary, beaded endbands on twisted, tawed cores, laid in grooves and pegged or nailed. Spine lined with tawed skin, mostly lacking. Straps laced and pegged or nailed into beech boards covered in (originally) brick-red leather, blind-tooled with an inscription in a border around an inner panel of overlapping circles interspersed with dots. Four flower-shaped bosses on each board and two catches on the lower one. Two bosses and clasp straps wanting.
