Print shows George Canning standing on the left holding a broom and a bag of money labeled "Gold" which he is giving to Henry Brougham who wears the dress of a German broom-girl over his parliamentary clothing and "Canning (left), in a court suit with bag-wig and sword, stands outside the door of the Treasury completing a bargain with Brougham. The latter is dressed as a German broom-girl as in British Museum Satires No. 14769, &c, with legal bands and a little cap perched on his barrister's wig, and very clumsy legs and feet. He has handed Canning his broom and takes in return a bag of Gold; his new silk gown is in his left hand. Canning says: Here's Money, and a hansome [sic] Silken Gown. The king is represented as a satyr, seen from the rear, standing on an altar kicking his left leg and breaking wind; Queen Caroline, as a priestess wearing a bell on her wrist, approaches from the right to administer an enema of "Aurum potabile" (a flavoured brandy); Bishop Hoadly stands behind her followed by men carrying on their heads vessels of gold, several of which have been deposited at the foot of the altar, square pieces of gold having spilled from one. On the left; Robert Walpole dressed as the Chief Magician, dressed in a coat embroidered with dragons and the words "Auri Sacra fames" and carrying a rod, looks up at the satyr; behind him is a procession of couriters with the insignia of the golden rump embroidered on their shoulders; in the foreground Walpole's brother Horatio Walpole holds out a pair of scales, an allusion to his concern to preserve the balance of power in Europe which earned him the nickname, the "Balance Master". "Pitt stands in front of the throne to which he points with a hand holding a number of threads attached to the noses of his supporters, who advance through a doorway, the foremost kneeling or prostrating themselves. Across his forehead is a placard inscribed 'Interest'; he says, "Approach & Salute the Broad Bottom of Royalty!!" He holds a large flag inscribed 'Standard of venality' on which are a large earl's coronet indicating Lonsdale (see British Museum Satires No. 6579), two duke's coronets, a mitre, a baron's and a viscount's coronet, and three money-bags, each inscribed 'Cole' (cf. British Museum Satires No. 6213), followed by the words 'to be Given Away'. On the ground at Pitt's feet are the words, 'Road to Preferment'. The king kneels on the throne exposing his 'broad bottom' to the Pittites; it is irradiated and to it are attached a pair of small wings; it is further adorned with Garter star and ribbon inscribed 'Honi Soit qui mal...'. He bends forward, his body in a horizontal position, so that his head and shoulders are hidden by a curtain (left) inscribed 'Secret Influence Drying Clouts! Nursing Making toast [cf. British Museum Satires No. 7923] Rocking the Cradle, &c. &c. &c.' The crowd of Pittites advances through a doorway surmounted by a large royal crown flanked by a birch-rod and a sword. Across the doorway is inscribed 'Hall of Prerogative 1784', and over the heads of the members, 'Majority of ye New P------T We are your Devoted Slaves'. Their heads are crudely drawn and few can be identified: a man in the forefront in tartan is evidently Dundas. A man full-face in the centre of the crowd who is inscribed 'Rat Catcher' and has a rat on his forehead is John (or Jack) Robinson, see British Museum Satires No. 6427, &c. Thurlow in wig and gown kneels in profile to the left, and a man on the extreme right resembles Barré. A parson in the foreground is probably Mason, cf. "A broadside satirising Robert Walpole with an etching in two parts. In the left-hand scene Frederick, Prince of Wales, stands with the Duke of Argyll and other gentlemen, pointing to the left where George II embraces Britannia. In the foreground, the grotesque figure of Walpole, wearing a coronet, kneels holding in five hands, bags of French and Spanish gold and another lettered, "I am Lord Corruption". Behind him stands his daughter, Lady Mary, toying with a coronet. On the ground beside Walpole, the French cock perches on the back of the exhausted Imperial Eagle, but the British lion watching the conflict growls, "Now I'm rousing". In the background, the white horse of Hanover kicks a man off a high rock; the man cries, "I'm lost"; a ship lies at anchor off Cartagena observed from another high rock to right by Admiral Vernon whose impetus towards the city is restrained by General Wentworth; below these two men sits Admiral Haddock chained to a rock (a reference to the limitation of his resources in dealing with the combined Spanish and French Mediterranean fleets).
