"A fight between the four barristers: Brougham and Denman, without shields, wield papers inscribed respectively 'Truth' and 'Justice'. The other two, with shields and a heavy spear, are worsted; at their feet lie Eldon, and (according to the text) Lauderdale and Redesdale (the most aggressive of the peers during the proceedings). In the background (left), among clouds of smoke, the Ministerial forces, with a tattered banner inscribed 'Pains . . Penalties', are retreating to the left. A cheering crowd advances from the right.
