"A freely drawn sketch of three figures. A Jew in profile to the right holds a glass show-box which is supported by a strap round his shoulders. Facing him in profile to the left is a man with a large pack tied to his back, he is looking at the Jew's wares, one hand held up as in surprise. Between them, and full-face, stands a Dutchman (?) wearing trousers and smoking a pipe; he is looking at the Jew's show-case. [In 1765 Cole compared the Paris shop-windows to the show-cases carried about by Jews.
