Manuscript, in mutliple hands, of a collection of several hundred riddles, acrostics, and rebuses, lighthearted poems primarily on female behavior, and several dozen hand-colored satirical engravings and newspaper clippings pasted in. Poem titles include Female loquacity; An excellent new song written for a masquerade at Edinburgh; Epitaph on a talkative woman; and Chit-chat at a country ball. The engravings primarily satirize social subjects, while the newspaper clippings include brief biographies of nobility; a survey of the mail in South America; a poem by George Tucker of Virginia; a chart portraying the expenditure on in "all the Christian world"; and several clippings on the votes of Parliamentary members in Ireland and England on whether to let Catholics sit in Parliament. A number of the riddles involve musical notation. Many of the entries have been decorated and colored.

Autograph manuscript of a collection of didactic material. The manuscript begins with specimens of calligraphy, labeled Courte hande, Chancerie hande, Secretarie hande, cloven hande, curled hand, chayned hand, and Roman hande, as well as examples of writing in reverse and recipes for making ink, red wax, and white letters on black paper. This section is followed by arithmetic tables; measurements and conversions for dry goods as well as salmon, eels, wine, and oil; a sample genealogical chart drawn as a tree; instructions on how to use counters for counting; and a chart of the names of English kings and the years of their reigns up to James I, dated 1607. The bulk of the collection, however, consists of several hundred Latin proverbs on such topics as error, excellence, faith, honor, and ingratitude, followed by English proverbs and admonitions, and then several English proverbs translated into Latin. This section includes excerpts from King James' Basilikon Doron and How to live and that well by William Perkins. These proverbs are followed by "prettie and necessary rules for such as use to deale in merchandize, easy to be had in memorye," and, at the end of the manuscript, genealogical information for the Hill family, beginning in 1568.

The poems are primarily political and satirize the royal family and the ministry of Sir Robert Walpole, 1st earl of Orford. The volume includes such titles as A song made on the funeral of the Duke of Marlborough; The brothers; Norfolk hours; and General Churchill's address to Venus. Authors represented in the collection include Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th earl of Chesterfield, John Hervey, baron Hervey of Ickworth, and Samuel Westley, while the satiric butts of the poem include King George II; Caroline, queen of George II; Sir Robert Walpole, and John Churchill, 1st duke of Marlborough. The manuscript also contains a serious epitaph for Henry Saint-John, 1st viscount Bolingbroke.

The manuscript contains numerous love poems by Sir John Suckling and Thomas Carew; other poets in the volume include Sir Robert Ayton, John Wilbye, and John Fletcher. An anonymous poem consists of a pastoral dialogue between Phyllis and Strephon; several are addressed to Chloris; and numerous others are set to the tunes of other songs.
