Abstract:
Collection of two treatises. 1. Sharḥ-i bīst bāb-i asṭurlāb (folios 1b-78b), "Commentary on Twenty chapters of the astrolabe" (in Persian), a treatise on the astrolabe (a medieval astronomical instrument used to observe the position of celestial bodies) by ʻAbd al-ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-Birjandī (active 16th century), an astronomer and a Ḥanafī "faqīh" (Islamic law scholar), who wrote in both Arabic and Persian, being a commentary on Bīst bāb dar maʻrifat-i aʻmāl-i asṭurlāb "Twenty chapters on knowing the uses of the astrolabe" of Naṣīr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṭūsī (1201-1274), a prolific author in many disciplines and the leading scholar at the court of the Mongol ruler Hulagu Khan (Hülegü, 1217-1265) in Marāghah (Āz̲arbāyjān-i Khāvarī, Iran). Copied on Tuesday night, 3 Ramaḍān, 1307 Hijrīyah (23 April, 1890) at al-Madrasah al-Nāṣirīyah, in Tehran (Iran). Name of copyist not mentioned (probably "Mullā ʻAbd al-ʻAlī Parjadī" who is mentioned in the incipit, but this could be a distortion of the name of the author "ʻAbd al-ʻAlī al-Birjandī"). 2. Followed by a short Arabic treatise (folios 78b-79b), a mathematical "lughz" (riddle or puzzle), by al-Shaykh Bahāʼ al-Dīn (Bahāʼ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-ʻĀmilī, 1547-1621), a Shīʻī scholar, who wrote in both Arabic and Persian on different subjects including mathematics and astronomy, born in Baʻalbak (Baʻlabakk, Lebanon) and lived and died in Iṣfahān (Iran). Name of copyist not mentioned, probably by the copyist of the first manuscript, and on the same date and in the same place.

Anonymous Commentary on the Qurʼān, being an addition (takmilah) to the commentary of Jalāl al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Maḥallī, 1389-1459 (an Egyptian Islamic law scholar). al-Maḥallī's commentary (from Sūrat al-Baqarah to Sūrat al-Isrāʼ) is part of the well-known commentary on the Qurʼān titled "Tafsīr al-Jalālayn" (Jalāl al-Dīn al-Maḥallī and Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī). Commentary by Zakarīyā ibn Muḥammad al-Anṣārī (approximately 1423-approximately 1520), a famous Egyptian Shāfiʻī Islāmic law scholar, Shaykh al-Islām and Qāḍī al-Quḍāh during the rule of Qāʼit Bāy (Sultan of Egypt and Syria, d. 1496), on his own compendium of Islamic law according to the Shāfi'ī school, entitled "Taḥrīr Tanqīḥ al-lubāb", an epitome of "Tanqīḥ al-lubāb" of Aḥmad ibn ʻAbd al-Raḥīm ibn al-ʻIrāqī (1361-1423), itself an abridgment of a larger work by Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Maḥāmilī (died 1024), entitled al-Lubāb fī al-fiqh al-Shāfiʻī. Books four and five of "al-Qānūn fī al-ṭibb" (Canon of medicine), a comprehensive work on Arabic medicine, by Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna, 980-1037) who was born near Bukhara (in present-day Uzbekistan). Avicenna was the most famous and influential scholar, scientist, and philosopher of the medieval world. He was foremost a physician, but was also an astronomer, chemist, geologist, psychologist, philosopher, logician, mathematician, physicist, and poet. His al-Qānūn fī al-ṭibb became the authoritative reference on medicine in the Middle Ages, not only in the Islamic world, but, in its Latin translations, in Europe as well. The present manuscript consists of book four (folios 1b-156b) and book five (folios 157a-211a) of a five volume set. Book five is called "al-Aqrābādhīn" (pharmacology, materia medica). Abstract:
Collection of Arabic poetry and prose from different eras, different places and different authors, covering some fifty subjects. Compiled by Masʻūd ibn al-Sayyid Ḥijāzī Masʻūd (al-Jirjāwī baladan, al-Ḥusaynī maḥtidan), on 1 Muḥarram, 1293 Hijrī (28 January, 1876). No reference could be found for the book or its compiler, probably the author's autograph.
